June 13th Weekly Agenda for AP English Monday, June 13th: Discussion of Kafka’s Metamorphosis; class will read and discuss Albert Camus' “The Myth of Sisyphus”. Tuesday, June 14th: Shortened day! All outstanding essays are due today! Class will read and discuss the existential essays by Sartre, Stace, and Niebuhr. Check in Metamorphosis and check out The Stranger. Read the first twenty pages of The Stranger for homework. Wednesday, June 15th: Contnue reading essays by Sartre, Stace, Niebuhr. Read and discuss The Stranger. Thursday, June 16th: Read and discuss T.S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock”. Finish reading The Stranger. Friday, June 17th: Turn in your vocabulary, grammar books and any other books you have not checked in yet. Discussion of The Stranger. Check in The Stranger and check out Heart of Darkness, the last book of the semester.

Writing assignment: Imagine that you have, like Gregor Samsa, awakened one morning to discover that you have turned into a giant creature of some sort - you get to choose which kind. Your assignment is to write your own Kafkaesque version of this story, including your family’s response to your....ahem....transformation. This will be due on Thursday, June 16th. Friday, June 10th: Begin work on The Stranger. Read and discuss existentialism. Read essays by Sartre and Niebuhr on existentialism.
