October 29th - November 2nd Weekly Agenda for AP English Monday, October 29th: Please bring your Vocabulary Workshop book, Level F, or Level G, if you had Mr. Carmichael last year. Unit Two will be assigned. This will be due on Monday, November 5th. We will read pages 26 - 25 in our BEOWULF handout and a brief in-class writing assignment will be given comparing and contrasting two of the four translations of the description of Grendel’s home. Tuesday, October 30th: Warm-up Journal: Write five parallel sentences using five of your Unit 2 vocabulary words. Your discussion questions, #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, “Think and Discuss: Understanding” , and “Composition: Explaining Beowulf’s Motives” are due today. Read pages 28 - 35 of BEOWULF. What we don’t read in class, please read at home. Tuesday, October 23rd: No fourth period today. Wednesday, October 24th: No fourth period today. Thursday, October 25th: Turn in your “Character Arc Essay” for The Oedipal Cycle. Read and discuss BEOWULF. Friday, October 26th: Mini-lessons in grammar: parallelism. Read and discuss BEOWULF. Heads up: There will be an essay on an excerpt from BEOWULF.
OCTOBER 15TH - OCTOBER 19TH WEEKLY SCHEDULE FOR AP LITERATURE MONDAY, OCTOBER 15TH: Hi guys! I’m sorry but I’m not going to be with you again - more training! So today, I would like for you to either read ANTIGONE, if you haven’t read it or have forgotten what it is about, or begin working on your essay which will be due on Wednesday, October 17th, when I return. The essay topic for OEDIPUS REX (which is due October 17th) is: How well does Sophocles’ OEDIPUS REX conform to Aristotle’s POETICS? It should be at least two pages long and include specific references to both Aristotle’s POETICS and Sophocles’ OEDIPUS REX.
