January 9, 2012 - January 13, 2012 Weekly Schedule for A.P. English Literature Monday, January 9th: Act 3 test and Act 3 reading logs are due today. Go over Act 3 in class today: Break into groups of three; look at the famous soliloquy "To be or not to be", Act 3, Scene 1, lines 64 through 96; the soliloquy will be divided into three parts (lines 64 - 76; lines 76 - 84; lines 84 - 96.) You and your partner will illustrate your section of the soliloquy and write the passage under the illustrations(s). There should be one illustration per imagery. This will be due at the end of the period. You and your partner will share your work with the class. For homework: Please write a compare and contrast essay on Act 1, Scene 3, the scene with Ophelia, Laertes and Polonius. Compare and contrast the way Laertes and Polonius speak to Ophelia regarding her relationship with Hamlet. DECEMBER 12, 2011 – DECEMBER 16, 2011 WEEKLY AGENDA FOR A.P. ENGLISH LITERATURE Monday, December 12 h : Break into pairs and analyze Act 2, Scene 2; page 97; lines 246 – 255; the scene between Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern discussing fortune. Some questions you may wish to ask are: What is fortune? What is fortune compared to? What is the extended metaphor? From this, what might we infer Hamlet’s attitude is toward fortune, luck, chance and destiny? Skip to page 99; lines 275 – 285; pair up and analyze for meaning and figurative language. Discuss pages 103 – 105 regarding the children’s theatre, which was at the time undermining many adult theatres. For tonight: Read Act 2, Scene 2 from page 109 to the end of the act. If you are not reading Folger’s, then read from the entrance of the players to the end of the act. December 5, 2011 Weekly Agenda for A.P. English Literature: Monday, December 5th: Break into groups and work on one tableau for Act 1. Turn in your Act 1 test. We will go over today or tomorrow. Remember: once we go over the test in class, it is too late for you to turn in the work. Pass out the poetry wheel for HAMLET Tuesday, December 6th: Go over the Act 1 test for HAMLET. Pass out the test for Act 2 Begin reading Act 2, Scene 1 For homework: Write a brief summary of the Act 2, Scene 1 Find an example of one of the following: metaphor simile personification allusion imagery BUT write who is speaking; to whom s/he is speaking; a brief background to the quotation (why the quotation is being said or the circumstances which give rise to the quotation) and a translation of the quotations.
