March 28th Weekly Schedule for AP English literature Monday, March 28th: The pace quickens from this point on until May 6th! Briefly go over some aspects of CRIME AND PUNISHMENT: Utilitarian philosophy, “Ubermensch”, etc. Character analysis, etc. Pass out packet on CRIME AND PUNISHMENT, including essay topics. The essay will be due Tuesday, April 5th. Break into groups and begin composing questions and answers for the following characters: Raskolnikov; Svidrigaylov, Razumikhin, Porfiry, Luzhin. Sonia, Dounia, Katerina. Homework: pages 68, 69, 70 in WARRINER’S ENGLISH GRAMMAR AND COMPOSITION; “The Participial Phrase”. This will be due on Wednesday, March 30th. Tuesday, March 29th: Your compare and contrast essay on poetry by John Keats and Robert Frost is due today. We will briefly go over the poems. Briefly go over some plot and character analysis of CRIME AND PUNISHMENT. Continue working in groups on the characters in CRIME AND PUNISHMENT. Wednesday, March 30th: Your grammar home
AP ENGLISH Week of March 21st - March 25th Good Morning everyone! Hope you had a great and restful weekend! Now, back to work! Monday, March 21st: Pass out trip slips (I hope) to see Tartuffe at the Actors’ Gang on Wednesday, March 23rd. We will leave Hollywood High at about 9:30 and return at about 1:00 pm. Go over John Keats’ “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” (which some scholars think may be a comment on his own frustration with love.) Also go over elegy and the villanelle form of poetry. Tuesday, March 22nd: Shortened day. We probably won’t have that test over poetry just yet. We should go over the dramatic monologue and do some reviewing over poetry terms. We are going to try for Thursday. Wednesday, March 23rd: If we can get the bus we will see Tartuffe, a Moliere comedy which is playing at The Actors’ Gang. I am fairly certain we can get the bus, but it’s not 100% certain at the moment I am writing this (Sunday morning) that we will. And yes, I know that a few of you are going to see
MARCH 14TH WEEKLY SCHEDULE FOR AP Monday, March 14th: Good morning, scholars! Collect your Frankenstein essay! Go over Lord Byron’s poem, “When We Two Parted” and analyze it in terms of structure and organization. For homework: give yourself twenty minutes to write two to three paragraphs on poem. Due on Tuesday, March 15th. For homework: Varying the beginnings of sentences. Pass out xeroxed copies from WARRINER’S over “Varying the beginnings of sentences.” Will be due on Thursday, March 17th. Discuss John Keats, his life and works, and the sonnet format. Tuesday, March 15th: Collect homework: Analysis of “When We Two Parted” Continue discussing John Keats’ poetry and the sonnet format. Discussion of the villanelle: “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” Presentation of poetry terms by Alisa, Josh, Raymond, Eric, Hugh and Calia. Wednesday, March 16th: Continued presentation of poetry terms. Pay attention! There will be a test over this - quite possibly on Tuesday, March 22nd. Anal
