Wednesday, May 31st: Begin work on Heart of Darkness; show Francis Ford Coppolas’ Apocalypse Now. Thursday, June 1st: Apocalypse Now; continue reading and discussing Heart of Darkness. Friday, June 2nd: Apocalypse Now; continue reading and discussing Heart of Darkness.
May 22, 2006 Weekly Agenda for AP English Monday, May 22nd: Finish reading excerpt from The Things They Carried. We will then read some WWl poetry in the textbook, England in Literature. And then of course, plunge into All Quiet on the Western Front. Tuesday, May 23rd: If I can get the DVD we will watch a little of A Very Long Engagement. And of course, read and discuss All Quiet on the Western Front. Please bring your vocabulary book to class today. We will go over some words from the book. Wednesday, May 24th: Continue reading and discussing All Quiet on the Western Front. We may do “hot seat” as a culminating assignment for the novel so start writing questions and answers for the main characters. Please bring your grammar book so that we can go over some problem areas in our writing. I may assign some of you additional work in the grammar book. Weekly Schedule for AP English Literature May 15, 2006 Monday, May 15th: Discussion of Albert Camus’ The Stranger; then you will create ten questions and answers for: Meursault and Albert Camus, and five questions and answers for Raymond, the Arab, and the judge. In lieu of an essay we will do “Hot Seat!” Tuesday, May 16th: No class today! Wednesday, May 17th: 3rd Period will meet today at 2:25. Finish “Hot Seat”! Please bring your purple and gold book today - and this time, I mean it! We will begin reading some beautiful World War 1 poems today. Thursday, May 18th: Third period will meet today at 2:25. We will read and discuss All Quiet on the Western Front and read selections from The Things They Carried. If I feel up to it, I will scout around for a copy of the film A Very Long Engagement, which is very long and not particularly engaging. Friday, May 19th: No class today! Third period does not meet today due to CST!
AP English Weekly Schedule for May 8, 2006 Monday, May 8th: Enough resting! Today we will read W.T. Stace’s “Man Against the Darkness” and Albert Camus’ “The Myth of Sisyphus”. Tuesday, May 9th: We will read and discuss Albert Camus’ THE STRANGER. If everyone is finished with the book, as I sincerely hope is the case, we will begin reading ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. Wednesday, May 10th: Please be sure to bring your purple and gold textbook - you know the one, the big, heavy one you’ve been toting around all semester in your backpack. We will be reading some brilliant and deeply moving poetry from WW1 - all of which was written by young men serving in a war they all believed in initially but later came to realize that the “War to end all wars” was really all about making money. Many of the poets died in combat. We will continue reading and discussing ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT.
