5 WEEKLY SCHEDULE FOR AP ENGLISH OCTOBER 27th - OCTOBER 31st Monday, October 27th: Break into groups to present your tableaux - one each representing the pivotal moment of the three plays, OEDIPUS REX, OEDIPUS AT COLONUS and ANTIGONE. Pass out your WARRINER’S ENGLISH GRAMMAR and COMPOSITION, 4th edition; assign: pages 81, 82 and 83; exercises 1, 2, and 3; “Clauses”; this will be due on Wednesday, October 29th. A very brief history of the English language. Today you will receive the packet for BEOWULF which we will begin reading. (And no, Grendel's mother does not look like Angelina Jolie.) Please take notes while you are reading BEOWULF: a brief summary; any unfamiliar words, or any figurative language. Pay attention to syntax and write down any interesting syntax you may notice in the story. This will be due today in class. Then: Read, annotate and outline the “Socrates and Aristotle” packet. This will be due on Tuesday, October 21st. Tuesday, October 21st: Your OEDIPUS essay is due. OCTOBER 13TH - OCTOBER 17TH WEEKLY SCHEDULE FOR AP ENGLISH MONDAY, OCTOBER 13TH: Camille, Malik and Felicia will give their presentations today. During their preparation time, we will be reading Emily Dickinson’s “I felt a Funeral in My Brain” for imagery in Perrine’s LIterature; page 776. We will finish discussing OEDIPUS AT COLONUS and then begin discussing ANTIGONE. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH: Shortened day today. Last night's homework from PERRINE LITERATURE is due today, questions 1-4 on Emily Dickinson's "I Felt a Funeral in My Brain". Today during Karen, Cindy and Daniela's preparation we will read Countee Cullen's "Incident" and answer the question on page 833. October 6th - October 10th Weekly Schedule for AP English MONDAY, OCTOBER 6TH: First ten minutes break into groups to work on literary terms presentations. I mentioned on Thursday and posted on last week’s web log to read OEDIPUS AT COLONUS over the weekend. I am counting on you to do that because we will break into groups of three to analyze the play in terms of character development, themes, and motifs. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7TH: Shortened Day! A prompt will be given to you today over the play OEDIPUS AT COLONUS. The essay will be due on Friday, October 10th. OEDIPUS REX PROMPT Analyze OEDIPUS REX in terms of Aristotle’s POETICS. Does the play conform to Aristotle’s ideals of unity of time and place? Is the protagonist of sufficient magnitude? Is the plot simple or complex? Does the play have reversal and/or recognition? Give examples.
