3rd Period: Please turn in your reading log and essay for Romeo & Juliet tomorrow (Thursday, May 22nd). Finish your script tonight and rehearse it during class. The next time we meet we will perform the scripts. Remember, I need a copy of your group's script. I will videotape your performance. Your vocabulary (pages 61 - 68, exercises 9 -15) is due on Tuesday, May 27th. 4th Period: Bring your English Workshop tomorrow. Your vocabulary is also due on Tuesday, May 27th. 5th Period: Acting. Ivan & Emanual, and Adrianna and Elia will do their scenes on Tuesday. Please have it memorized and have your character's personal history and bio ready to turn in on Tuesday.
First Period: Please read up to page 102 in THE GREAT GATSBY and write a brief summary of what you have read. Please pay attention to Fitzgerald's use of color and his use of detail in describing the setting of Myrtle Wilson's home - i.e., the huge ash heaps - and compare with the cool greenery of Daisy's home. Of what significance could the optometrist's advertisement hold - remember, the sign of the huge eye and glasses? Be aware of the difference between the dinner at Tom and Daisy's house, and the drunken evening in the city with Myrtle. On Thursday I will have some questions for you up to page 102. Enjoy reading. For those who have read THE SUN ALSO RISES, please choose one of the essay topics, and hand the finished essay to me on Tuesday, May 27th. 2nd, 3rd, 4th Period: Please do Vocabulary, pages 61 - 68, exercises 9 - 15. May 16th: First Period: I hope you guys enjoyed a free day without me. You need to read up to page 63 in THE GREAT GATSBY, and your alienation essay is due on "In Another Country" on Monday. Because of the testing the schedule is going to be a little wacky so I will give you the Unit 8 test on either Tuesday or Wednesday (we're not going to be meeting every day). On Thursday the argumentative essay on "Man Against the Darkness" is due. Have a good weekend. 2nd - 3rd Period: Keep working on your scripts! I'll give you guys a break and make the finished scripts due on Tuesday. We will also start presenting them on Tuesday as well (I'll videotape them for posterity!) However, your essays are still due on Monday, along with your reading logs. Have a good weekend! 4th Period: Keep working on your reading logs for ROMEO & JULIET! 5th Period: Start memorizing. On Monday we will move to #503. On Tuesday I would like to start presenting scenes starting with
Hey, I am not going to be in class tomorrow.
First period: Guess what? You get a break from me. I will be on campus but I am going to be working with other English teachers on the "pacing plan" - an attempt to coordinate what and when all the other English teachers are teaching junior English classes. So for first period, I would like for you to work on your "In Another Country Essay", and to start reading - if you haven't already - THE GREAT GATSBY. 2nd - 3rd period: Continue working on your Romeo & Juliet rewrite, and of course, work on your essay for ROMEO & JULIET. The essay and the reading logs will be due on Tuesday. On Monday, please bring your vocabulary book and your grammar book. 4th Period: Please work on your essay. The final draft and the rough draft are due at the end of Friday. The ROMEO & JULIET reading logs are due on Tuesday. On Monday, please bring your vocabulary book, and your grammar book.
First Period: Hey guys! Remember your Unit 8 Vocabulary is due tomorrow (May 14th). Since your grammar skills are probably getting a little rusty, I also assigned pages 225-226, exercise #3 in your Warriner's blue grammar book. That's going to be due on Thursday, May 15th. Your Hemingway essay on "In Another Country" will be due on Friday, May 16th. Tomorrow we are going to read an excerpt on your favorite philosophy and mine - existentialism! Then we are going to do a fun little exercise that will really drive home the point of what existentialism is all about - sort of like high school. See you tomorrow! 9th Graders: The end is near! Yes!!! We are nearly finished with Romeo & Juliet! And of course, we will then do the requisite Act 5 test and the essay. The essay will be on whether Romeo & Juliet were the pawns of fortune or were they free agents who unwittingly contributed to their demise by really bad choices. I will discuss this topic with you tom
