First Period: Please read up to page 102 in THE GREAT GATSBY and write a brief summary of what you have read. Please pay attention to Fitzgerald's use of color and his use of detail in describing the setting of Myrtle Wilson's home - i.e., the huge ash heaps - and compare with the cool greenery of Daisy's home. Of what significance could the optometrist's advertisement hold - remember, the sign of the huge eye and glasses? Be aware of the difference between the dinner at Tom and Daisy's house, and the drunken evening in the city with Myrtle. On Thursday I will have some questions for you up to page 102. Enjoy reading.

For those who have read THE SUN ALSO RISES, please choose one of the essay topics, and hand the finished essay to me on Tuesday, May 27th.

2nd, 3rd, 4th Period: Please do Vocabulary, pages 61 - 68, exercises 9 - 15. Remember to write out all the exercises. 3rd & 4th Period: please bring your vocabulary books with you tomorrow (Wednesday, May 21st).
