December 13th Weekly Schedule for American Literature WE ARE THUNDERING DOWN THE HOME STRETCH! Monday, December 13th: We will continue reading Emerson’s “Self Reliance” and doing group presentations. This is for a grade! You obviously cannot get a grade if you are not present! So be present - for your life! A list of essay topics over Emerson’s “Self Reliance” and Thoreau’s “Walden Pond” and “Civil Disobedience” will be handed out to you. The essay will be due on Thursday, December 16th. Do not turn in your essay late. I will not have time to grade it after Thursday! The notebook organization will be given to you today in preparation for turning your notebook in on Wednesday, December 15th. Brief review for final. Tuesday, December 14th: Shortened Day! We will then move on to the excerpt from Thoreau’s WALDEN POND. We will read it and then make class presentations - for a grade. If you are not present, you cannot get a grade. So be present! Brief

9th Grade Honors Weekly Schedule of December 13th Monday, December 13th: We are now definitely thundering into the home stretch! Yeah! 1st Period: We will climb into our boat again and sail past the hideous Scylla and the frightening Charybdis! Then we will rest on the beautiful island of the Sun God Helios where we will dine on Helio’s beeves and kine. Because we have once again disobeyed the “host-guest” ties, and ignored Circe’s warnings not to eat Helio’s beeves and kines, our ship will be destroyed by a vengeful Poseidon, and all will perish except Odysseus, and of course, us. We, along with Odysseus, will be swept to the island of the lovely Calypso, where we will have gone - at last - full circle. Then we’ll briefly go over our stay with Calypso, our brief stint with Princess Nausicaa and her father, King Alcinous, and then at last, we will land at Ithaca! Home at last! 6th Period: We will climb into our boat again and land on the island of Circe
December 13th Weekly Schedule For AP English We are thundering into the home stretch! Monday, December 13th: A list of Hamlet essay questions will be passed out today. The essay will be due on Friday, December 17th, the day of your exam. Verily, thou hast finished perusing the third act of Hamlet and of course have finished answering the questions o’er the third act. We will go over the Hamlet and Ophelia scene and what exactly did he mean when he sayeth to her, “Get thee to a nunnery!” We will also goeth o’er Hamlet’s “To be or not to be” soliloquy and Claudius’ speech, “My sins are rank”. We will then watch the video of Act lll. You will be given the fourth act to read and the open book test over Act lV. Do not look at the test until after you have read the act! Break into groups and read pages 221 - 234; “Self-Reliance” by Emerson, “Walden” and “Civil Disobedience” by Thoreau. Begin presentations. Tuesday, December 7th: Shortened Day! Vocabulary Jeopardy! Test over Unit 5 vocabulary. Wednesday, December 8th: Your “Compare and Contrast” essay over The Crucible will be due. Begin presentations of “Self-Reliance”, “Walden” and “Civil Disobedience”. Congratulations to all the fabulous singers and dancers who participated in Ms. Goldshein and Mr. Sacks’ wonderful winter production. Now back to work on Hamlet! Monday, December 6th: Go over Act l of Hamlet. You will be given an open book quiz over Act l which you will take and work on at home. We will watch the Kenneth Branagh video of Act l in Hamlet. Your Unit 4 in your vocabulary book is due today. Due to a shortage of time, this homework will count as a test. So you won’t be given a test over this. The homework is the test. WEEKLY SCHEDULE FOR 9TH GRADE ENGLISH Good morning and afternoon, scholars! Monday, December 6th: THE ODYSSEY! At last, we begin! We will find ourselves on the lovely shores off King Alcinous’ court where we will be rescued by the lovely Princess Nausicaa. There in her father’ s court, Odysseus will reveal his true identity to the king. For a final project, you are going to create a game board of THE ODYSSEY! 6th Period: We will finish Part Four of “The Trojan War” and then we’ll row back to Greece. Tuesday, December 7th: Ye gods! More Odyssey! We will visit the island of the Ciccones, the land of the lotus eaters, the land of the god of the winds, and the land of Polyphemus, otherwise affectionately known as the one-eyed Cyclops. We will also have some fun little handouts covering vocabulary, comprehension and literary terms. If we have time we may act these out. Wednesday, December 8th: And more Odyssey!
