Monday, December 6th:

Journal:

Write a short story using ten of your vocabulary words from Unit 5.

Break into groups and read pages 221 - 234; “Self-Reliance” by Emerson, “Walden” and “Civil Disobedience” by Thoreau. Begin presentations.


Tuesday, December 7th: Shortened Day!

Vocabulary Jeopardy!

Test over Unit 5 vocabulary.


Wednesday, December 8th:

Your “Compare and Contrast” essay over The Crucible will be due.

Begin presentations of “Self-Reliance”, “Walden” and “Civil Disobedience”.


Thursday, December 9th:

Edgar Allen Poe! Discuss elements of gothic literature.
Read “The Cask of Amontillado”
Discuss the use of irony

Friday, December 10th:

Write three little gothic sketches in which each sketch uses one of the following forms of irony: verbal, situational and dramatic!

The sketches must be gothic in nature, which means put on your black lipstick, your heavy silver jewelry and your black velvet clothes.

Your notebook for this class will be due on Friday, December 17th.
