WEEKLY SCHEDULE
FOR 9TH GRADE ENGLISH

Good morning and afternoon, scholars!

Monday, December 6th:

THE ODYSSEY! At last, we begin! We will find ourselves on the lovely shores off King Alcinous’ court where we will be rescued by the lovely Princess Nausicaa. There in her father’ s court, Odysseus will reveal his true identity to the king.

For a final project, you are going to create a game board of THE ODYSSEY!

6th Period:

We will finish Part Four of “The Trojan War” and then we’ll row back to Greece.

Tuesday, December 7th:

Ye gods! More Odyssey!

We will visit the island of the Ciccones, the land of the lotus eaters, the land of the god of the winds, and the land of Polyphemus, otherwise affectionately known as the one-eyed Cyclops. We will also have some fun little handouts covering vocabulary, comprehension and literary terms. If we have time we may act these out.

Wednesday, December 8th:

And more Odyssey!

We will sail past the Sirens, and then land on the island of Circes, the mysterious witch who turns men into animals. We will then take a brief detour to the land of the dead, back to Circes, and then on our way past the dreaded Scilla and Charybdis. And more handouts.

Thursday, December 9th:

1st Period:

We will then climb into the boat again and set sail for the island of Helios, the Sun God, a place where the beeves and the sheep are never born and never die - well, at least not until Odysseus’s hungry men go there on shore leave. More handouts.

6th Period:

We are going on a brief respite to #502 to type our literary analysis into the Vantage Computer program.

Friday, December 10th:

Since our ship has been destroyed by a thunderbolt by Zeus, we will have to swim to the island of the beautiful Goddess Calypso, where we will rest for a few years - or at least over the weekend. Handouts.
