Schedule for the Week of October 25th for Ninth Grade Honors

Monday, October 25th:

The Compare and Contrast Essay Between Mathilde in "The Necklace" and Della in "The Gift of the Magi" will be due today.

We begin working on our literary analysis today. Please bring your outside reading novel and your reading log. We will work on the introductory paragragh.

Tuesday, October 26th:

The rough draft of your introductory paragraph will be due. We will then begin to work on the second paragraph. We will go over the concepts of plot, protagonist, antagonist, point of view, the different types of conflict, theme, motif and symbolism.

Wednesday, October 27th:

The rough draft of your second paragraph will be due today. We will revisit the literary terms from yesterday as needed. We will review plot today and begin working on the third paragraph. I will also have individual tutoring with you on your literary analysis which will include grammar and writing techniques.

Thursday, October 28th:

Today is a minimum day because tonight is open house from 6 to 8! (Hooray! I get to meet your parents and TELL THEM ALL ABOUT YOU!!!) The rough draft of your third paragraph will be due today.
We will begin working on the fourth paragraph.

Friday, October 29th:

The rough draft of your fourth paragraph is due today. Begin working on your final paragraph today; it will be due on Monday, November 1st. We will continue working on our individual tutoring sessions with students.
After you have finished with your rough draft of each paragraph go on to the next paragraph. When you have completed the entire rough draft and have my corrections, then you may go back and rewrite it as your final draft. The final draft will be due on Tuesday along with your corrected rough drafts and your reading logs. Whew! Then it will be all over!

Hamlet Act 2, Scene 1: In this scene Polonius is giving instructions to his servant Reynaldo to spy on Laertes, his son, in Paris. (Again, note the theme of spying) Polonius is giving Reynaldo money to give to his son, but tells him to “to make inquire of his behavior”. “Inquire me first what Danskers are in town….” This is an example of elision or omission of words (words are intentionally left out to insure the lines scan in iambic pentameter.) What word or words are left out?
