SCHEDULE FOR THE
WEEK OF
OCTOBER 25TH

AMERICAN LITERATURE

MONDAY, OCTOBER 25TH:

Today we will begin work on your long anticipated literary analysis!

Please be sure to bring your outside reading novel and reading log. We will go over the introductory paragraph for your literary analysis. We will also go over pages 151 - 152 in English Workshop; “Adjective and Adverbial Phrases”; exercises 3 and 4.

For those of you who would like a little extra credit, you may break into groups of four, select five words from your vocabulary list and create a “words study” for them - which can be a rap, a choreographed song and dance, a skit or a combination of all the above.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26TH:

Your vocabulary unit 4 is due today. We will go over the second paragraph of your literary analysis. We will also review such fab concepts as theme, plot, the various types of conflict, protagonist, antagonist, point of view, symbolism and motif.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27TH:

Your introductory and second paragraphs will be due today. We will go over the third and the fourth paragraph in class. I will also have individual tutoring sessions with students over writing and grammar stuff.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28TH:

Minimum day today because tonight is OPEN HOUSE where I get to meet your parents and TELL THEM ALL ABOUT YOU!

Your third and fourth paragraphs will be due today.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29TH:

Your final concluding paragraph will be due today. If you have finished your rough draft of each paragraph then you may begin the final draft of your analysis.
The final draft, plus the rough draft and your reading log will be due on Tuesday, November 2nd.

On Monday, November 1st, we will have a vocabulary test over Unit 4 and begin reading Ben Franklin’s eyewitness account of a witch trial, which is in preparation for reading Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.
