WEEKLY SCHEDULE FOR
NOVEMBER 22ND


MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22ND:

First Period:

Hand back persuasive essays. Go over the first paragraph.

Begin the Trojan War. Go over handouts, parts one and two.

6th Period:

Go over the fourth and concluding paragraphs for the literary analysis.

Begin the Trojan War. Go over handouts, part one and two.


TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD:

First Period:

We will go over the second paragraph of the persuasive essay. We will go over citing sources, concessions and rebuttals.

(Don’t worry, 6th Period, we will be going over our persuasive essays too, just as soon as we are finished with the literary analysis!)

We will continue our foray into the misty past of The Trojan War. We will go over parts three and four.

6th Period:

We will finish working on the literary analysis today. I hope to be finished with your rough drafts, which I will return to you as soon as possible. As soon as your essays are returned to you, you should begin working on your finished drafts. The finished drafts will tentatively be due on Monday, November 29th, along with your corrected rough drafts and your reading log.

We will continue our foray into the misty past of The Trojan War. We will go over parts three and four.


WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24TH:

First Period:

We will finish working on the persuasive essay rewrite and the finished draft will be due on Monday, November 29th.

We will finish working on “The Trojan War” and will have a wee small test.

6th Period:

If everything goes as planned - and it never does - you will be finished with your rough drafts of your literary analysis, you will have turned them all into me and I will have corrected them and have returned them to you. The finished drafts will be due on Monday, November 29th.

We will finish working on “The Trojan War” today, parts three and four.

Hamlet Act 2, Scene 1: In this scene Polonius is giving instructions to his servant Reynaldo to spy on Laertes, his son, in Paris. (Again, note the theme of spying) Polonius is giving Reynaldo money to give to his son, but tells him to “to make inquire of his behavior”. “Inquire me first what Danskers are in town….” This is an example of elision or omission of words (words are intentionally left out to insure the lines scan in iambic pentameter.) What word or words are left out? Dansker: Danes Polonius tells Reynaldo to inquire about Laertes’ behavior in a roundabout general way: “encompassment and drift of question” and by this way will arrive at the truth faster and more completely than by asking directly (“…come you more nearer / Than your particular demands will touch it.”) Do you think that’s true? Literary devices: Narrative perspective (Pov) and selection of detail. Middlemarch: underline novels!!!!! Rosamond’s personality: She was not given to weeping and disliked it.
