Well, enough resting! Let’s get back to work!

1. Post mortem: Let’s analyze the short story excerpt and some of the multiple choice selections I gave you last week.

2. Discussion of Madame Bovary.


Tuesday, May 10th:

Shortened day!

1. Discussion of the William Blake poetry.

2. Discussion of the third open ended prompt.

3. Discussion of Madame Bovary.


Wednesday, May 11th:

1. Discussion of Madame Bovary

2. Discussion of culminating assignments for Madame Bovary.

They are:

1. A scene or a monologue from the book.
a. Must be five minutes long
b. Typed
c. Memorized and acted out
2. A two to three page essay. Topics to be discussed.
3. A trial of Gustave Flaubert on obscenity charges.
a. May be either defense or prosecution
b. Must present argument as attorney
1. Class will act as jury
c. Arguments must be written out
d. Passages from book must be cited


Thursday, May 12th:

We will begin reading Ibsen’s A Doll House. There will be a brief discussion of naturalism and the innovation by Chekhov and Stanislavsky of the Moscow Art Theatre in acting and modern theatre.


Friday, May 13th:

Read A Doll House.
Some time may be devoted to working on your culminating assignment for Madame Bovary.
