AP WEEKLY SCHEDULE
FOR MARCH 20TH
Monday, March 20th (first day of Spring!)
Presentations start today! Eric will do the honors with his presentation on sonnets!
We will start off with your favorite - multiple choice questions. We will then read Alexander Pope’s The Rape of the Lock; We probably will not finish it, so you need to finish it at home tonight!
Tuesday, March 21st:
Another fun presentation today! This time it will be Bhavana who will do rhyme.
And for even more fun, another multiple choice test!
Today, your “Age of Reason, Wee-Little-Take-Home-Open-Book-Test” is due today! Depending upon how we are doing for time, we may go over it in class. We will go over The Rape of the Lock, and then we will read Samuel Johnson’s poem, “London” and Daniel Defoe’s A JOURNAL OF THE PLAGUE YEAR.
Wednesday, March 22nd:
More Presentations! Joseph will do terza rima for us today.
Journal: Write sentences using ten of your unit 5 vocabulary words. Make sure that you are using the words correctly, that the sentences are grammatically correct, and - to make it more interesting (after all, this is an A.P. class) - use the vocabulary words in at least one complex sentence, one compound sentence and one complex-compound sentence. To make this assignment even more interesting, vary the beginnings of the sentences so that you are using at least one sentence using a prepositional phrase, one sentence using an appositive phrase, one sentence using a participial phrase, and one sentence using an infinitive phrase.
For homework tonight: Grammar! WARRINER'S ENGLISH GRAMMAR; pages 245 - 247; “Varying Sentence Beginnings”; exercises 9 and 11. This will be due on Friday, March 23rd.
I am going to give you your first compare and contrast essay which will be over John Keats’ “O Star” and Robert Frost’s “Something Like a Star”. We will go over this in class.
The essay will be due on Monday, March 27th.
Thursday, March 23rd:
More Presentations! Liz will present the villanelle for us and Alvaro will pesent romanticism.
I am going to give you the paper detailing the individual literary analysis assignment and the due dates for each analysis. Just like last semester, in order to get an “A” on this assignment, you must do five of these.
We will go over how to incorporate quotations into the essay which might be helpful when you are writing your compare and contrast essay.
We will also go over last year’s AP prompt on William Blake’s poetry “Songs of Innocence”.
We will finally start on Dostoevsky’s CRIME AND PUNISHMENT.
Friday, March 24th:
More presentations -
Unit 5 Vocabulary test.
Your grammar homework is due: WARRINER'S ENGLISH GRAMMAR; “Varying Sentence Beginnings”; pages 245 - 247; exercises 9 and 11.
Because we are so pressed for time, you will not have the full hour for the vocabulary test; you will only have twenty minutes to take the test.
Continue discussing CRIME AND PUNISHMENT.
