Warm-ups: Voice Lessons; Diction; pages 12 and 12; excerpts from Maya Angelou and Phillip Larkin.
Read and answer the multiple choice questions over THE HANDMAID'S TALE excerpt.
Continue analysis of Margaret Atwood’s THE HANDMAID'S TALE and working on the graph.
Begin working on the essay for THE HANDMAID'S TALE.
The Prompt: Analyze the theme of power in Margaret Atwood’s THE HANDMAID'S TALE and how it is shown through the writer’s use of diction, symbolism, metaphor and other literary terms.
This essay will be due on Wednesday, September 17th.

DAYBREAK: Critical Reading and Writing: pages 25-26; “Nature of Symbolic Fire” and “First Frost”. Break into groups, analyze the three poems and select the best lines from each poem to create a new poem. This poem will be due on Thursday, September 18th.
Write a poem about a traumatic event using heat as a symbol.

Your HANDMAID'S TALE essay is due today.
You will be given about ten minutes to work on your literary terms presentation.
Break into groups and begin working on Aristotle’s POETICS.
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH:
If we receive our vocabulary books today, VOCABULARY WORKSHOP: level G, then Unit one will be assigned. Unit One will be due on Wednesday, September 24th.
Your original poem on a traumatic event using the metaphor of fire will be due today.
You will be given about ten minutes to work on your literary terms presentations.
