Continue our investigations into our backpacks.
Assignment: Using the style of Tim O’Brien, write a paragraph describing five high school students by the contents of their backpack. This assignment will be due on Wednesday, September 10th.
Grammar: Break into pairs and on butcher paper, rewrite the unpunctuated paragraph from THE THINGS THEY CARRIED; finally, compare the pair’s punctuation with Tim O’Brien’s.
Tuesday, September 9th:
Read an excerpt from THE HANDMAID’S TALE. Multiple choice questions over excerpt.
Analyze the excerpt from THE HAND MAID’S TALE. Please bring post-its.
Assignment: Write analysis of the excerpt from THE HANDMAID’S TALE. This assignment will be due on Thursday, September 11th.
Wednesday, September 10th:
Warm-ups: Voice Lessons: “Selection of Detail”; page 30.
Continue analysis of THE HANDMAID’S TALE if necessary.
Assign literary terms and dates of presentations to groups of three.
Your assignment: “The Things They Carried” is due today. Share with class.
Thursday, September 11th:
Warm-ups: Voice Lessons: “Selection of Detail”; page 31.
VOCABULARY WORKSHOP; Level G; Unit One assigned today. Break into groups and choosing three words, demonstrate through improv, charades or mime the definition of the vocabulary words. The unit will be due on Wednesday, September 17th.
Friday, September 12th:
DAYBREAK: Critical Reading and Writing; pages 25-26; “Nature of Symbolic Fire” and “First Frost”. Break into groups, analyze the three poems and select the best lines from each poem to create a new poem.
Assignment: Write your own poem about a break up using heat as a symbol.
Heads up! Next week we will begin presenting our literary terms which we will be tested over.
