November 10th - 14th
AP ENGLISH AGENDA
Monday, November 10th:
Please bring your vocabulary book to class today. Unit 2 will be assigned and will be due on Friday, November 14th. Please write the words, the definitions, the synonyms and antonyms. You only have to write the correct words for “Completing the Sentence” and “Choosing the Right Words”, but please write out the synonyms and antonyms, underline the italicized words and write the vocabulary words.
Break into groups of three and read the four translated passages from BEOWULF. Choose the one your group likes the best and storyboard it: illustrate it and write the passage underneath the illustration.
Tuesday, November 11th:
No school today in observance of Veterans’ Day.
Wednesday, November 12th:
Warm-up: In order to maximize the limited time we have in class, during “dead time” (for example, when I am taking roll, etc.) please write five sentences using your vocabulary words from Unit Two and for bonus points, write two with periodic sentence construction, and write two with adjective clauses.
Finish work on your Beowulf storyboard and present to class.
Next: Write one to two paragraphs showing the translator’s use of figurative language and the effect(s) achieved through the use of the figurative language.
Thursday, November 13th:
Please be mindful that your BEOWULF questions are becoming due and payable:
“Think and Discuss: Analyzing”, numbers 4 and 5, and please answer the following question under “Extending”, number 9. Please do “Applying: Metaphor”, numbers 1, 2, and 3 and “Composition: Describing a Monster’s Lair”.
On page 48, under “Analyzing” answer question 9; on page 49, under “Foreshadowing”, answer questions 1 and 2; under “Reading Literature Skillfully”, answer questions 1,2, and 3; and “Etymology”.
Warm-ups: (Remember, the point of the warm-ups is to help you get settled into class and focused, and to use “dead time” to develop and practice your skills). Using five more of your Unit Two Vocabulary words, please write five sentences, two with periodic sentence construction and two with adjective clauses. We will briefly go over and collect.
