WEEKLY SCHEDULE
FOR AP ENGLISH LITERATURE
NOVEMBER 3rd - 7th

Monday, November 3rd:
Your “Unscrambling Adjective Clause” handout is due today.
Pass out the Sentence Pattern Handout. Go over periodic sentences. Using your words from Unit One Vocabulary, please write five sentences using periodic construction.
Today you will receive the packet for BEOWULF which we will begin reading. (And no, Grendel's mother does not look like Angelina Jolie.) Please take notes while you are reading BEOWULF: a brief summary; any unfamiliar words, or any figurative language. Pay attention to syntax and write down any interesting syntax you may notice in the story. Go over last night’s reading of BEOWULF.

Tuesday, November 4th:
Shortened Day!
There will be a brief writing assignment comparing and contrasting four translated passages from BEOWULF.
Please read the next ten pages from where we finish in class. For both class and at home reading, please keep a journal which should include a brief summary, unfamiliar words, interesting or unusual figurative language and any other object of note.

Wednesday, November 5th:
Please bring your grammar book to class today, WARRINER’S ENGLISH GRAMMAR; pages 88-90 will be assigned; exercises 5, 6, and 7. This homework will be due on Friday, November 7th.
Discussion questions, #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, “Think and Discuss: Understanding” , and “Composition: Explaining Beowulf’s Motives” will be assigned today. This assignment will be due on Thursday, November 6th.
Read BEOWULF and of course, keep a journal which will be due and payable when we finish the story. For homework, please read BEOWULF and of course, keep a journal.


Thursday, November 6th:
“Unscrambling Adverbial Clauses” will be passed out to you today. This assignment will be due on Monday, November 10th.
Your BEOWULF homework, page 25; discussion questions #1,2, 3, 4 and 5, “Think and Discuss: Understanding” and “Composition: Explaining Beowulf’s Motives” is due today.
Read BEOWULF in class and of course, keep a journal.
For homework: answer the following questions on pages 35 under “Think and Discuss: Analyzing”, numbers 4 and 5, and please answer the following question under “Extending”, number 9. Please do “Applying: Metaphor”, numbers 1, 2, and 3 and “Composition: Describing a Monster’s Lair.” This will be due on Friday, November 7th.

Friday, November 7th:

Warm-up: Please write five sentences with adverbial clauses using words from your Unit One vocabulary.
Your BEOWULF homework is due today: “Think and Discuss: Analyzing”, numbers 4 and 5, and please answer the following question under “Extending”, number 9. Please do “Applying: Metaphor”, numbers 1, 2, and 3 and “Composition: Describing a Monster’s Lair.”
Your English grammar homework is due today: WARRINER’S ENGLISH GRAMMAR; pages 88-90; exercises 5, 6, and 7.
Read and discuss BEOWULF. What we don’t finish today please finish over the weekend.
For homework: please answer number 9 under “Analyzing” on page 48; on page 49 under “Foreshadowing”, answer questions 1 and 2; questions 1, 2, and 3 under “Reading Literature Skillfully”, and “Etymology”. This will be due on Wednesday, November 12th.

I smell an essay coming up!
