Discuss and turn in your multiple choice answers.
Turn in your CRIME and PUNISHMENT essay.
Go over CRIME and PUNISHMENT readings (pages 130 to 230).
Read an additional fifteen pages in CRIME and PUNISHMENT tonight. Don’t forget to work on your Cornell Notes.

Tuesday, April 14th:
Today we will analyze a prompt from Henry James’ THE PUPIL. The essay for THE PUPIL will be due on Thursday, April 16th.
Read and discuss CRIME and PUNISHMENT.
Read an additional fifteen pages in CRIME and PUNISHMENT tonight.

Wednesday, April 15th:
Today Mr. Goldyn, Mr. Itkin and I will be taking our acting classes to the Pasadena Playhouse.
Today will be a “make-up” day for you where you will be able to work on any outstanding work (in both meanings of the word) for this class.

Thursday, April 16th:
Your essay over Henry James’ THE PUPIL is due today.
Read and discuss CRIME and PUNISHMENT.
We will read some writings on existentialism from your Nietzsche packet.

Friday, April 17th:
Read and discuss CRIME AND PUNISHMENT.
Today we will read some essays on existentialism by Sartre and Niebuhr.
You will be given an essay prompt from CRIME and PUNISHMENT.
The essay will be due on Tuesday the 21st.

Hamlet Act 2, Scene 1: In this scene Polonius is giving instructions to his servant Reynaldo to spy on Laertes, his son, in Paris. (Again, note the theme of spying) Polonius is giving Reynaldo money to give to his son, but tells him to “to make inquire of his behavior”. “Inquire me first what Danskers are in town….” This is an example of elision or omission of words (words are intentionally left out to insure the lines scan in iambic pentameter.) What word or words are left out? Dansker: Danes Polonius tells Reynaldo to inquire about Laertes’ behavior in a roundabout general way: “encompassment and drift of question” and by this way will arrive at the truth faster and more completely than by asking directly (“…come you more nearer / Than your particular demands will touch it.”) Do you think that’s true?
