Monday, May 4th:
The essay “The Party” is due today.
Briefly go over “The Party” and the multiple choice questions.
Read Albert Camus’ “The Myth of Sisyphus”.
Read and discuss THE STRANGER.
For tonight please do the compare and contrast essays over “Eros” by Robert Bridges and Anne Stevenson. This will be due on Wednesday, May 6th.

Tuesday, May 5th:
Shortened Day!
The essay “The Crossing” is due today which we will briefly go over.
We will briefly go over the two poems on the subject of “Eros”. The compare and contrast essay on “Eros” will be due tomorrow.
Excerpt and multiple choice questions will be given.
Read WAITING FOR GODOT in class and finish reading at home.

Wednesday, May 6th:
Your compare and contrast essay on “Eros” will be due today.
Excerpt and Multiple choice questions will be given.
Timed essay on excerpt from Elizabeth Gaskell’s novel, MARY BARTON.
Read WAITING FOR GODOT.
For homework: Get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast.


Thursday, May 7th:
Please be at the small gym at 7:30 in preparation for the test. Bring water, juice, fruit and granola bars, two number two pencils, and a watch. Leave your i-pod and cell phone in your purse

Hamlet Act 2, Scene 1: In this scene Polonius is giving instructions to his servant Reynaldo to spy on Laertes, his son, in Paris. (Again, note the theme of spying) Polonius is giving Reynaldo money to give to his son, but tells him to “to make inquire of his behavior”. “Inquire me first what Danskers are in town….” This is an example of elision or omission of words (words are intentionally left out to insure the lines scan in iambic pentameter.) What word or words are left out? Dansker: Danes Polonius tells Reynaldo to inquire about Laertes’ behavior in a roundabout general way: “encompassment and drift of question” and by this way will arrive at the truth faster and more completely than by asking directly (“…come you more nearer / Than your particular demands will touch it.”) Do you think that’s true?
