For homework reread “La Belle Dame Sans Merci”, looking for pov and soapstones
Pass out Shelley’s “Ode to the West Wind”
Brief discussion of Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN
Discussion of Alberto Magnus; Paracelsus

Tuesday, April 6th:
Shortened Day
Discussion of last night’s homework: the reading of “La Belle Dame Sans Merci”
Comprehension; vocabulary; shift of point of view; narrator
Read “Ode to a Nightingale”; analyze for imagery
FRANKENSTEIN prompt handed out.
The essay should be three to four pages in length and provide specific examples from the text. This essay will be due on Monday, April 12th.
The Prompt:
Analyzing Shelley’s use of characterization, setting and theme, give specific examples from the novel which demonstrate aspects of the Romantic and Gothic genre.

Wednesday, April 7th:
Pass out background information on CRIME and PUNISHMENT
Pass out biographical information on Doestoevsky
Briefly went over concept of the ubermensche
Went over questions and notes on the weblog for CRIME and PUNISHMENT
START READING CRIME and PUNISHMENT;GET A JUMP START ON THE QUESTIONS NOW!
Went over what was due, what is due now and what will be due in the next three days.
The following should have been turned in already:
Outline of “A Vindication of the Rights of Woman”; “The Chimney Sweep” essay and the compare and contrast essay on the John Keats poem, “Bright Star” and the Robert Frost poem, “Choose Something Like a Star”.
What should be turned in no later than Monday, April 12th:

Analyzed rhyme scheme
Went over enjambment: definition and effect it creates.
Assigned for homework tonight the worksheet on “Ode to the West Wind”. We will go over it on Friday, April 9th.

Thursday, April 8th:
Timed writing essay: A compare and contrast essay on John Keat’s “When I Have Fears” and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s “Mezzo Cammin”.

Friday, April 9th:
Discussion of the timed essay on the Keats’ and Longfellow’s poems.
Discussion and analysis of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “Ode to the West Wind”.
Discussion of enjambment, the caesura and the terza rima.
