November 15th - November 19th Weekly Schedule for AP English Literature


Monday, November 15th:

Quickly go over Part 4, Chapter 5. Go over questions for Part 4, Chapter 6 on the blog. For tonight - if you haven't already - read Part 5, Chapter 1 and 2, and answer the questions on the blog.


Tuesday, November 16th:

Shortened day

Go over Part 5, Chapters 1 and 2 in class. Read passages, act out some scenes from Chapters 1 and 2. GO OVER THE QUESTIONS. Turn in at end of class.

Read Part 5, Chapters 3 and 4. ANSWER THE QUESTIONS ON THE BLOG. These will be due on Wednesday, November 17th.


Wednesday, November 17th:

Go over the questions for Part 5, Chapters 3 and 4 in class. Act out some of the scenes in class.

Read Part 5, Chapter 5 for homework tonight. Answer the questions on the blog.


Thursday, November 18th:

Read and act out some of the scenes from Part 5, Chapter 5.


Friday, November 19th:

In class essay on CRIME and PUNISHMENT. You will be given the prompt in class.


For homework finish reading CRIME and PUNISHMENT and answer the questions for each chapter in Part 6. There will be an essay assigned over the Thanksgiving break.

Hamlet, Act 2, Scene 1

Hamlet Act 2, Scene 1: In this scene Polonius is giving instructions to his servant Reynaldo to spy on Laertes, his son, in Paris. (Again, note the theme of spying) Polonius is giving Reynaldo money to give to his son, but tells him to “to make inquire of his behavior”. “Inquire me first what Danskers are in town….” This is an example of elision or omission of words (words are intentionally left out to insure the lines scan in iambic pentameter.) What word or words are left out? Dansker: Danes Polonius tells Reynaldo to inquire about Laertes’ behavior in a roundabout general way: “encompassment and drift of question” and by this way will arrive at the truth faster and more completely than by asking directly (“…come you more nearer / Than your particular demands will touch it.”) Do you think that’s true?
