Monday, October 1st:
Go over Act 1, Scene 3: Laertes, Ophelia, Polonius
Pair up and find examples of money and finance in Polonius' speech to Ophelia.
For homework: Write a two paragraph mini-essay contrasting the extended metaphors used by Polonius in his speech to Ophelia and the extended metaphors used by Laertes in his speech to Ophela. What do the differences show in the two men's attitude towards Ophelia? This will be due on Thursday, October 4th.
Read Act 1, Scene 4 in class;
For homework: Find examples of figurative language in Act 1, Scene 4: write the examples, identify and explain how it relates to the theme, the characters, or plot points.
Tuesday, October 2nd:
Regular day!
Read Act 1, Scene 5 in class.
Watch Act 1, Scene 4 and 5 in the Kenneth Branagh's film, HAMLET
For homework: Find examples of figurative language in Act 1, Scene 5: write the examples, identify and explain how they relate to the theme, the characters, or the plot points.
Wednesday, October 3rd:
Assigned Unit One in the VOCABULARY WORKSHOP. This will be due on Tuesday, October 9th.
In the section under definitions on pages 21 - 23, please write the word, the part of speech, the definition and the brief phrase showing how to use the word.
In the section marked "Completing the Sentence" (pages 24 - 25) please write the correct word.
In the section marked "Synonyms" (page 25) please write the short phrase, underline the boldfaced word, and underline your vocabulary word which you think is the correct synonym of the boldfaced word.
In the section marked "Antonyms" (page 25) please write the short phrase, underline the boldface word and underline your vocabulary word which you think is the correct antonym of the bold faced word.
In the section marked "Choosing the Right Word) (page 26) just write the correct word.
Your Act One open book HAMLET test is due today. Go over in class.
