Monday, March 4th:
A brief primer on Nietzsche: pass out Nietzsche packet; break into groups and read the highlighted areas.
Question for Tonight:
In your days spent in the company of Raskolnikov, do you think he is acting upon or working his way through Nietzsche’s concept of the “Ubermensche”? Give evidence to support or disprove the questions. Write a minimum of two pages explaining why you agree or disagree with the statement, providing examples from the book to support your position. This will be due Wednesday, March 6th.
Tuesday, March 5th:
Discussion of last night’s assignment.
Read through and act out pages 67 - 74 in CRIME and PUNISHMENT
A.P. Test Preparation:
Multiple choice questions on Oscar Wilde’s THE PORTRAIT of DORIAN GRAY
For homework: read Part 2, Chapter 1 in CRIME and PUNISHMENT
Analyze the chapter for the motif of delirium, and the other effects his recent activity has had on him. Referring to his theories about why criminals get caught, does he fall into the same trap as other criminals? Due on Wednesday, March 6th.

Go over the answers for THE PORTRAIT of DORIAN GRAY

Preparations for THE PUPIL, the next in class essay
Your two page essay on Raskolnikov fulfilling Nietzsche's ideas about the Ubermenche is due.

For homework tonight:
Prepare three questions regarding characters, theme, metaphors, symbols, and motifs you have found in your wanderings with Raskolnikov. You will be put in groups of four and will participate in a Socratic circle.
Friday, March 8th:
Break into groups to do the Socratic Circle on CRIME and PUNISHMENT.
Read Part 2, Chapter 2 in CRIME and PUNISHMENT
Analyze Chapter 2 for examples of irony, religious symbolism and the motif of delirium. This will be due on Monday, March 11th.
